Family and consumer science department
Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Family and Consumer Science Department is to prepare students for competence in the changing and challenging work of the family. "Work of the family" includes responsibilities related to personal development, resource management, food nutrition and wellness, parenting, family relations, and life planning. The program is designed to recognize and focus on the problems faced by today's families. Solutions to practice problem solving require critical and creative thinking, effective communication, ethical reasoning, and technical skills. Studies in this area empowers individuals and families across the life span to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society.
