Cassandra Lacey ‘76

Cassandra Angela Lacey was born on January 5, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the oldest child of Warrick T. Lacey, Sr. and Sonja (Hill) Lacey. Cassandra was raised in Columbus, Ohio where she attended St. Thomas the Apostle, class of 1972 and St. Francis DeSales, high school class of 1976.

Cassandra accepted Our Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while she was in her early teens at Union Grove Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio. Afterwards, she taught Sunday school for youth at that same church.

Additionally, Cassandra was a Girl Scout and was a member of the Ohio Track Club in the early 1970’s. She also enjoyed playing volleyball, softball and sewing. She attended PSI Institute in the mid 1980’s and graduated with a certificate in Data Information Processing. She later worked as a nurse’s aide, work that she thoroughly enjoyed. She participated as a volunteer tutor in a special Ready to Read program for adults in the early 1990’s. This program emphasized utilizing the newspaper as the main teaching tool. Cassandra loved spending time with her grandchildren and was their biggest and certainly most vocal fan.

Cassandra is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Booker T. and Carrie Pearl Lacey of South Carolina; maternal grandparents, Lemar and Bertha Hill of St. Louis, Missouri; mother, Sonja H. Lacey of St. Louis, Missouri; father, Warrick T. Lacey of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Sr.; uncles, Lemar Hill of St. Louis, Missouri and Douglas Hill of California; aunts, Virginia (Raymond) Rhett of Charleston, South Carolina; and Ester (Daniel) Plummer of Jacksonville, Florida.

She is survived by her daughter, Kondi (Brent) Carroll; sister, Valerie (Darrell) Lacey-Jones; brother, Warrick T. (Susan) Lacey Jr.; granddaughters, Akira Lacey, Akia Lacey, and Ari Carroll; bonus grandsons, Brent Carroll II and Niran Johns-Carroll; nephew, Maxwell Lacey-Garita; niece, Dorian Lacey-Garita; as well as their mother, Gerardina Garita; and extended family and friends.

We will sorely miss her ability to make us laugh. She never met a stranger. She was very sociable and talked with everyone she encountered. Family to hold private service.
