Matthew Russell ‘96
The exasperation on our younger brother’s face was priceless. Matthew Russell’s meticulously clean living room was covered with the confetti that was stuffed in an obnoxiously hard to open Christmas present. Finally, one of us got the best of him! Matty, or Doc, was always the one “deviling” his siblings: Amy Jo (Thom), Ian (Michele) or twin brother Ben (Stacie). We believe he is now pestering Mom and Dad, Diane and Dave Russell up in heaven, because he passed away on January 17th, 2023 at the age of 45. He also left behind his beloved daughters, Kensie and Piper to be protected and nourished by their mother, Monika. Matt is also survived by his nieces (Rowan, Regan and Paige) and nephews (Rhett, Logan and Colton), and his girlfriend, Kelly. Matt was born (September 21, 1977) and lived in Columbus, Ohio.
Matt will be remembered for his love of his family. Supporting his girls in their scholarly and athletic endeavors was his primary consideration when deciding how to spend his time. He was proud to be a doctor and a teacher and Matt would want all to know that he worked tirelessly to earn his many accolades in his professional career. More importantly, he felt that each person he encountered was deserving of his time. Matty loved to fish, his tennis shoe collection, the Buckeyes, and above all, God. He always strove for excellence, whether it be working out, playing golf or ping pong. I know his friends and family will never forget Matty’s endless energy, that crazy twinkle in his eye and mischievous smile when he was up to something.
