Terrence Dowdell ‘64
Terrence “Terry” Lee Dowdell, (76), of Ruckersville, VA was called
home on February 8, 2023 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville,
Virginia.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary; three children
Adam (Wendetta) Dowdell, Terry “TJ” Dowdell, Rebecca “Becky”
(James) Harris, seven grandchildren, Brandon Dowdell, Kendal
Dowdell, Kris Dowdell, Madison Harris, Jacob Hensley, Theron Harris,
and Caelen Harris; and his beloved dog Polly. He also leaves behind a
large extended family. Terry was preceded in death by his parents,
George and Marcia Dowdell and his brother, David Dowdell.
Born November 6, 1946 in Dayton, OH, he was the son of George and
Marcia Dowdell. The family moved to Columbus, OH when Terry was a
child. He earned his degree from THE Ohio State University, and went
on to his career in finance. In his professional life he owned
numerous small businesses. His devotion to his family came first,
often at the expense of personal sacrifice. Terry loved the sound of
his grandchildren’s laughter. He enjoyed nothing more than to take a
ride “S’plorin” the back roads of America with Mary and was
extremely grateful when he spotted wildlife on his drives. He was
extremely passionate about college football, unspoiled nature, his
country and reading. In retirement he explored a lifelong dream of
becoming an author and even published a book.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at UVA Medical
Center MICU, for their tireless efforts and compassion during the final
phase of Terry’s life.
